Mary Fields
An imposing cow"boy" of six feet and around ninety kilos. Strong, courageous, and with a heart as big as she is, Mary Fields knew nothing but hard work. Born a slave, she worked on a boat sailing the Mississippi after the war. She served in a convent where she rose to be forewoman, although she was expelled for blasphemy and reprimanded by shooting a subordinate. She ran a tavern that went bankrupt because she fed the poor for free. At the age of 60, she became the first African American woman to work as a postal carrier in the US.
She's the guardian and protector of Pink Noise, both for her strength and her great capacity to offer affection and care. She knows that cats are the enemy, that they are annihilating all of her kind, but her compassionate heart couldn't help but adopt one that, defenseless and lost, she hides from the group as her greatest secret. Accustomed to inhospitable plains, bandits, and Indians, the Internet seems like an idyllic place to her. What harm could a hater's tweet do? Hashtags don't even carry bullets... If someone insults her in ALL CAPS, she punches the screen, and the letters shrink.
This new world is a thousand times better than the Wild West. Here, she can even consider things she never imagined, like her gender identity. The only thing she doesn't like is not being able to smoke anywhere and being replaced with whiskey by a alfalfa-flavored detox smoothie. Not even her mule Mose likes it.
